Advocate – I Have One, Do You?
Because my parents either sent me or took me to church I learned that I needed an advocate. It was explained I was not acceptable to God and was in need of a savior. At the end of my life, I would stand before the judgment seat of God and would not be accepted just because I tried to be a good girl. I could never be good enough. I needed more than I could find in myself.
Everyone Needs an Advocate
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 John 1:7-2:1 NKJV
My Advocate
When I stand before God, I will have Jesus Christ, my Savior, my Advocate, my Lawyer, to speak in my defense. My sins will be washed away by His blood. He will claim me as one of His sheep. He will know me and I will know Him. Because of His death, I am not condemned. I am made acceptable. The debt that I owed for my sins, was paid by my Advocate. “And when before the throne, I stand in Him complete, Jesus died my soul to save, this my lips shall still repeat.”1
My parents may not have understood just what it meant to be born again, to be free from self, and to be a new person according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. They didn’t know that they were a new creation, old things were passed and all was new. They didn’t know that they didn’t have to be who they were raised to be. But, in spite of that, they took me to church or sent me, and it was there that I learned the truth. For that, I am grateful. Eternally, grateful.
It took me until I was fifty before I understood the freedom in this new life, but God was patient with me and cornered me to the place where I could see, where all else fell away and I could see clearly. But, that is another story.
Jesus Volunteered to be Your Advocate
My Advocate, Jesus Christ, wants to be the Advocate for all, but not all want Him. Sad. But, if you do choose to accept His gift of life, you will be secure in His keeping. He will be your defense, your advocate.
Words to light your path
John 10:27-30 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
Gracious Loving Father, Thank You so much for Your love for me. A love that was so great that You sent Your Son to die for me and everyone. To pay my debt for sins. To be my advocate when I stand before You at the judgment seat. I pray others will recognize their need for an advocate and come to You.
