The Desire For God

The desire of every true believer is to see God face to face. That desire, for most, is long-buried under a heap of stuff we call life. Buried and forgotten. We might catch a glimpse of it every once in a while.
What if we allowed that longing to surface? What if we allowed that desire to see Him to become larger and larger until it flavors our entire life.
It is easy as a believer to settle into a “Christian lifestyle” doing the things approved of our group of fellow-believers. Saying the accepted words, etc. content to have God in their lives even when it appears He has His back to them. Do you feel like that? I read that phrase in Tozer’s “Fellowship With God”. Wow! That speaks volumes. It explains why there is no real joy. Believers are troubled. Many are discouraged. They pray loudly hoping to be heard.
I understand there is a price to pay for real intimacy with God. It isn’t something to trifle with or dabble in. It will cost my self-life. It will cost who I am. It will cost my ambitions, plans and wishes. This is how Margaret Harris expressed it in song:
Tho’ the way seems straight and narrow, all I claimed was swept away
My ambitions, plans, and wishes, at my feet in ashes lay.
Then God’s fire upon the altar of my heart was set aflame
I shall never cease to praise Him, Glory, glory to His name.
I Will Praise Him by Margaret Jenkins Harris
What if we blew on that barely glowing ember in our lives, that desire to see Him face to face, fanning it into a raging fire? Maybe we could become members of a fellowship of burning hearts.
Prayer – O Most High, touch our hearts with a wound of longing for You that will be with us all of our days. Amen
Words to light your path this week-
Psalm 27:8 When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Psalm 89:15 Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful post. It really resonated with me as a fellow believer. I think it’s so important to constantly evaluate our relationship with God and make sure we’re not just going through the motions of a “Christian lifestyle.”
The idea of fanning that desire to see God into a raging fire is so powerful and inspiring. It can be scary to give up our ambitions, plans, and wishes, but the reward of true intimacy with God is worth it. Let’s continue to pray for that longing for God to stay with us all of our days.
