Is Christianity a Lifestyle? Or Is It More?
A prayer
I think, O God, that You want us to be obsessed with You. Not just committing to a lifestyle. Not just going to church and trying to be like others in the group. But, living, breathing, moving about in You. Rejoicing in You. Not in what we have gotten out of You. But just You.
Delighting ourselves inside of You. Discovering new attributes of You. Not learning a lifestyle.
Like a swimmer might enjoy diving, swimming, somersaulting, twirling in the water. Thoroughly enjoying himself.
Or if he could fly, on a beautiful day soaring, diving, twirling in the air. It’s difficult to explain. It is so much more than what we might settle for.
Everything we could ever hope for is found in You. Peace no matter our circumstances. Love beyond anything we have ever experienced. Deep remorse and shame when we see our sinfulness, and then Your infinite mercy. Your immanence. You are always with us.
You are so much more than a God we pray to when we need something. Help us to stop being like little children always wanting, and learn to sit in Your Presence simply admiring You. There is something about sitting before Your smiling face. Calming. Refreshing.
Being a Christian is so much more than a lifestyle.
Reconciled back to where You meant us to be. Completely fulfilled. All while living in this dark world.
Amen.
