Our Inner Throne
Our center, our throne
The center of our being is our throne room. That place deep inside each of us is our throne. We are masters of our own lives and naturally sit on that throne. Behind and underneath all we say and do is what drives us. Our center. Who we really are. Our desires. Not our brain. Our desires use our brains. Not the reverse.
God’s throne in us
But…that throne was designed for God, not us. We live there alone when we are on the throne. God not only wants to live in us, but He wants to sit on the throne. Many, many have invited Him into their lives and have received salvation from God, but still sit on the throne.
He won’t take it from us. We must willingly give it up. When we claim the throne, when we live as king of our lives, we are usurping His place which is idol worship.
Surrendering our throne
It is when we surrender that we will find rest. Then and only then will we have peace. Until then, there will always be conflict. When we are on the throne we are carnal. Could it be that we want His blessing, but not His Lordship? We want what He can do to make life better for us, but not submit to His being our Master?
He does not share the throne. We can’t co-rule with Him. Jesus is our new master. There can be no co-rulers. He does not share our throne with us. When we rule, we are living after the flesh. What does the Bible say about our flesh?
Flesh is enmity with God. Always. Doesn’t ever get along. Does not want to submit to God. Same thing experienced by Adam and Eve.
Everyday stepping down
Every day we experience it. Every day we are faced with choices. As long as we are alive on this earth we will be faced with that choice. Every day. As we allow Him to displace flesh with His life and transform us we will find it easier or less frequent. It will become our default. We will automatically look to Him in everything, every decision, every difficulty.
It is there we will find completeness. It is as we step off into the unknown that we find God all He claims to be. It is as we relinquish our control and give Him the controls that we find joy. It is where we discover who we were meant to be.
Step down from your throne. Yield it to Him; it is His by rights anyway. He created us. He created that throne for Himself. Everything will work properly if He is on the throne. It is there that we will feel we are living out our destiny, each one as God has personally designed. In His infinitude, there is room for every person to be individual, unique.
As usurpers, let’s step down and give Him His rightful place.
Prayer – Almighty God, Help us to recognize the throne in our heart was meant for You, and we are taking what is not ours and are living a defeated, incomplete and selfish life when we are in control. We step down and relinquish our throne to You, its rightful owner. Amen
