Quiet My Heart, Lord
Quiet my heart
In our complex, busy, noisy, world it is easy to lose sight of God and not hear His voice. Quieting our souls and simplifying our lives will make it easier to hear God.
We can ask God to simplify our life, but He can only do what we allow Him to do. Know what I mean?
It is our choice to quiet our hearts. He will enable us to do the impossible task of quieting our hearts. But, it is our responsibility to take that first step. It is His responsibility to complete the work in us. Everyday we choose. Sometimes hourly.
Quiet in the middle of life
In the middle of a chaotic situation, we can choose. We can step back, in our spirit, take a deep breath and look to Him. Quieting our heart. Listening to Him. Or in the middle of a monotonous day, we can choose. We can quiet the complaining and griping, and look to Him. Choosing to quiet our natural inclinations, our flesh, we can do our tasks as an act of worship to Him.
As we walk with Him, listening to Him, we will be guided to a simpler life. He will make us aware of how we are influenced by friends, society, and family to do this or that. He might be speaking to us about giving up something we like. He will not take it from us. It is ours to give up to Him. It is ours to sacrifice as an act of worship to Him.
What about you? He will simplify your life if you want that. It will make more room for Him making you more complete.
Words to light your path this week
- Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. ESV
- Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God. ESV
- Psalm 131:1-2 O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. ESV
Kind Father, may we quiet our souls and simplify our lives so we can hear Your voice and have time for You. Amen
