The Bible Speaks Today

The Bible Speaks Today

Bible opened to Gospel of John

I think a new world will arise out of the religious mists when we approach our Bible with the idea that it is not only a book which was once spoken, but a book which is now speaking…If you would follow on to know the Lord, come at once to the open Bible expecting it to speak to you. Do not come with the notion that it is a thing which you may push around at your convenience. It is more than a thing, it is a voice, a word, the very Word of the living God.

Bible advice

Does the Bible offer what you need? Do we need to go to other experts for help? What about Christian psychologists? Do they have the wisdom we need, the solution to what is troubling us? Will their advice bring us peace? Freedom? Joy?

If I need wisdom or advice for any area of my life I can find what I need in the scriptures. It is truth. It is reliable for relationships, family, children, anxiety, addictions, struggles. In His prayer to His Father in John 17:17 Jesus prays, “Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.”

Bible wisdom

Do you know what God says about the wisdom of our experts? He describes it as being futile. So why do we look to the wise experts around us? We have access to God’s wisdom. He knows everything. He lacks nothing.

He doesn’t lack in certain areas leaving us to go to secular experts like Maslow, Jung, Freud, etc. or to counselors trained in the traditions of men.

Do we really think that God is somehow incomplete? That He needs the help of our psychologists to provide for His people. What about blending psychology with scriptures? If God has all we need for life and godliness why would we mix what He offers with what is futile? That sounds like confusion to me.

Bible reading benefits

So if we want real freedom, we can go to the source of freedom. Jesus said to abide, to live in His word. There we would find all the advice and counsel we need. He promises peace and freedom.

Here is what King David said about the words of God. He describes it using these words: perfect, sure, right, pure in Psalm 19:7-8.

Is anything lacking in those words?

  • God’s word is perfect. It can convert the soul. It can provide the direction you need.
  • God’s word is sure. If we come admitting we need His advice, it will make us wise.
  • God’s word is right. It is correct. Nothing wrong with it. It fits every situation.
  • God’s word is pure. It is not clouded with various opinions resulting in confusion.

Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the truth in Your word. May we see how essential it is to our spiritual life. It has all we need from You. Help us to abide in Your word and be a true disciple. Amen
