Choosing to Believe the Truth This New Year
Let’s choose to believe the truth about ourselves. According to Bill Gilham, we will live out what we believe about ourselves. If you see yourself as an alcoholic, you will live under that belief. If you believe you are not worth anything, you will act like it. If you see yourself as inadequate, you will live like that. So as God’s child, let’s see what He has to say about you as His child. (John1:12)
Bible truths about you
You are holy and beloved –
Colossians 3:12a Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved NKJV
You have a divine nature residing in you –
2 Peter 1:3-4 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…by which have been given to us exceeding great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature NKJV
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people NKJV
You have been chosen –
Ephesians 1:4 just as He chose us in Him…that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love NKJV
You are holy –
1 Peter 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” NKJV
You are different than most other people –
Ephesians 4:17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk in the futility of their mind NKJV
Because Jesus is holy, you are holy –
Romans 11:16b if the root is holy, so are the branches NKJV
John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. NKJV
Truth vs. feelings
Do you see who you are as a believer, a child of God? You are not the same old person. You are new. You are special. You are holy – set apart. You are a daughter or son of God by your new birth. He has put His Spirit in you, giving you new life.
You are a saint, holy. Don’t believe lies that say you aren’t a saint. They are lies. No matter how long you have believed those lies and are comfortable with them, they are lies. Statements or feelings that contradict the Bible are lies. Lies.
Step out in faith. Believe it for today. Then for two days, etc. Dare to believe it. Dare to tell the opposing voices they are liars. Even if it seems like you are pretending. You have had many years of believing the devil’s lies about you.
Don’t let your past define you. You are a new creation. God’s workmanship. He has wiped out your past by the blood of His Son. It is gone. You are not who you were. In God’s eyes, all is new.
In God’s eyes, you are holy. Act like it. Remember you will act like what you believe to be true. Allow God the freedom to create a new you. It is an exciting walk as you give God permission to work in you. It is a process. Yield to His nudges, whispers, and leading. Immerse yourself in His word daily. Jesus said that if we would be disciples of His word we would know the truth and that truth would set us free. Free from our past. We aren’t chained to our past. Let it go. Deny yourself, that old you, take up your cross (a reminder that your past is dead) and follow Jesus.
Words to light your path
Romans 6:3-4 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. ESV
