Jesus – Consider Who He Was This Christmas
Jesus, consider who He was. This Christmas season, join me as I consider who Jesus was, is, and is to be. If you know Him, let these scriptures be an encouragement to you. If you do not know Him, this could be your introduction to Him. Allow these words to move from your mind to your heart as you meditate on one of them throughout each day.
Dec. 1 He was called the eternal Word and He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:1,2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
Ephesians 3:9 God who created all things through Jesus Christ.
Jesus wasn’t just a good human born at a certain time. He always was. He was before our time.
Dec. 2 He had glory with the Father, which He laid down when He came to earth.
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
This was His choice. This supreme being chose to come to earth and live as a human.
Dec. 3 He humbled himself and became obedient even to death.
Philippians 2:7-8 who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
He laid aside His deity while on earth, learned obedience and even died in obedience. Why? He didn’t have to. He made that choice so He could redeem us.
Dec. 4 He was not of this world, He came from God.
John 8:23,42 And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of myself, but He sent Me.”
He is not one of us. He was sent from a heavenly world. Remember that, He was sent. It wasn’t His agenda, His plan.
Dec. 5 He was the express image of God.
Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God.
Hebrews 1:3 who being in the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.
People could watch Him and know what the Father was like.
Dec. 6 He was one with the Father.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
John 14:9 He who has seen Me has seen the Father.
They were of like mind. Perfectly. He was the exact representation of God.
Dec. 7 He was loved by the Father and He loved the Father.
John 15:9 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you.
17:23 I in them, and you in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
Did you get that? Not only was He loved by the Father, but in the same intensity that He is loved He loves you. And just as God loved His son, so He loves you the same way. Wow! We know how much He loved His Son. To think God loves us just as much is difficult for us to comprehend. But it is true. Now think on that for a while. God wants to draw us close to Him. He loves you so completely that He sent His son to give His life so that if you would place your whole trust in Him you would be saved. You would be born into His family. (John 1:12) You wouldn’t have to be afraid of Him, or wonder if you are good enough.
This Christmas season let’s dig a little deeper to see who this Jesus (the reason for the season) was before He descended to our earth. I want to slow down to consider who He was. Take time with me to ponder one of the passages each day of this week. Let these passages simmer on the back burner of your mind as you go about your life.
Father God, open our eyes to see who Your Son was before He came to earth to redeem us. Amen
