Life on the Highest Plane, Pt.6 – Bible Study, Prayer, Hope
In Life on the Highest Plane, Pt.6 Ruth Paxson shares what more we can do, as well as, the works, relationship, and hope of the spiritual person.
Bible study is essential for life on the highest plane
Bible study plays an integral part in this spiritual life providing a revelation of God’s character, how we are to live, and comfort for times of trials. It renews our mind to think correctly. It brings out areas that need to be cleansed and consecrated. It is the only trustworthy lamp to light our path. In times of fluid standards, it remains unchanging and completely applicable for every situation and need in any age.
Psalm 119:105 Your is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Regular Bible study is essential for spiritual growth. Ruth Paxson lists three aspect of Bible study she considers essential for taking our lives to the highest plane.
It is important to have a goal, something we are looking for rather than aimless reading. For instance, reading to learn about God’s character, or how to live rightly. Pray that the Holy Spirit will illumine the truth in the Bible reading of each day.
Then a correct attitude of humility and of faith is important. Anything that might hinder our applying the word to our lives would impede God’s working in our lives. To live this life on the highest plane we need to be receptive and submissive to Him who loves us as He refines us and transforms us into the image of His Son.
Thirdly, we need to approach Bible study with the mindset of obedience. It does no good to read but not obey. In fact, over time our hearts can become hardened to the Spirit’s gentle voice. Deuteronomy 30:17 But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away….
She quotes Sir Arthur Blackwell who summed up the Christian in relationship to the Bible in four words:
- Admit – Let it in
- Submit – let it govern you
- Commit – hide in your heart
- Transmit – let the living word flow out in living streams
Life on the highest Plane is impossible without prayer
It is a time of fellowship with our High Priest. It is a time for two-way communication, not just petitioning Him. That is part of it we see as He is always encouraging us to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
God uses His children in the ministry of intercession – going before the throne for someone else. It is essential. Much is accomplished in the spirit world through this type of spiritual warfare.
Prevailing prayer is characterized by purity of heart, a detachment of spirit, definiteness of aim, intensity of desire and daring of faith. Wow! Do these characterize our prayers?
Isaiah 59:1-2 gives us a promise that we frequently quote, but it does have a condition of purity of heart. Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
Prayer is work done in the heavenlies and we need to be detached from the world and its limitations. Then how badly do we want what we are praying? How much time do we spend in intercession? Finally, prevailing prayer is marked with daring faith. There are astounding promises in the Bible.
John 14:14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If we ask as if it was Jesus asking…. This requires the daring faith of Abraham. Romans 4:20-21 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory toGod, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
Life on the highest plane results in good works
Ruth Paxson goes on to say that works are a natural outcome of our faith and our love for God. We share in his concern for the lost and become His hands and feet. He expresses Himself through the members of His body, the church. Believers have been chosen, called, appointed and sent by God. Just as Jesus was sent, so He sends us. As we place our lives in His hands, He has sovereign rights to place us where He wants us and to use us how he desires. Let’s be available and flexible.
John 17:18, As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
As the church was in the first century, so we should be. All believers are witnesses of who He is. Intercession was an integral part and is today.
Relationships of one who lives on the highest plane
What are the relationships of the spiritual person? First of all, the relationship to God is paramount. Because the believer has been a recipient of such great love, that person, in turn, loves God supremely. 2 Corinthians 5:15, and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. That believer’s love for God is so greater than his love for family and friends, that the love of family and friends pales in comparison.
The love for God is what fuels that believer’s love for others. He loves others because he loves God so much that he sets himself aside to allow God’s love to flow through him to others.
Life on the highest plane is filled with hope
Finally, the person living life on the highest plane is filled with hope. Hope for the return of the Savior, Jesus Christ. The worldview of such a believer rests on Jesus Christ. He loves because he is loved. We are busy about our Father’s business aware of the soon coming of our Lord, waiting patiently, holding fast to our faith and looking forward to the day we will be with Him who gave His life for us.
Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
