Dismal Valley – In the Bad Times He Carries Us
In this dismal valley shrouded by a dark cloud, I walk. What happened to my glorious walk in light and joy?
I understand there will be dark, trying times. The refining process. It is there where I must totally lean on you, O Lord, and even let you carry me for it is too dark for me to see. I know that mentally, but…
It is one of those times now. The way is unknown to me. I’ve not been here before. It looks like a dismal valley.
But it is very real. It is very dark. Lord, help me to learn more about you during this time. Then I will be able to say that my God is my very real salvation, my deliverer.
On a recent evening, as I contemplated the trial before me, God let me know that he cared about what was troubling me. He was moved by my desperate cry. He assured me that he would walk with me through this dark time. He had not abandoned me.
Today, after more than a month, God is still holding my hand even when I don’t feel him. He promised never to leave me nor forsake me. Never. Even as I am still walking through this dark valley I will trust him. So dismal. Oswald Chambers says even in the darkest of times we can know God’s Assurance.
He loves me. He loves me. He loves me.
Most of my life is a joy walking with him because it is founded on a firm foundation, but part of my daily concern is this dark, dismal valley. A song talks about going through fiery trials. The lyrics can be found at the bottom of this post.
Lord Jesus, help me to keep my eyes on you and not on the trial. I find joy in surrendering to you and walking with you.I will trust in you, My Lord. I will wait on you to bring me through this with a faith that is stronger than ever. I will walk with you through this dark and dismal valley looking for your presence to touch my everyday life.
Words to light our path:
Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you.
