Anxiety and the Bible – Is there help?

Anxiety and the Bible – Is there help?

anxiety and the Bible
Anxiety has no place in the mind of children. They totally trust the adults in their lives to provide for all their needs.

As we grow up, we begin to be responsible for more of the areas of our lives and eventually responsible for others too. In the process, we get acquainted with anxiety.

According to the dictionary, anxiety is distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune. A dark cloud that prevents sunshine. That brings tension headaches, upset stomach, nervousness. Not our friend.

Fear of danger or misfortune, fear of something bad happening to us or someone we love.

What is your boogeyman determined to bring you? Is it lack of finances, an illness, alcoholism, children into drugs, drug addiction, marriage falling apart? It could be many different problems causing anxiety.

Know this, God loves you. If He loves you He wants the best for you. He knows all about your life and wants you to trust Him with it. Give Him your life, relinquish it into His care. Then live a carefree life knowing He will enable you to meet every responsibility that comes your way

How much do you think God the Father loved His son Jesus?

Jesus loves you that much! That is heavenly love, not like a love we know from another person. He wants you to abide(live) your life each minute of every day in His love.

Let your mind meditate on these two verses in John. Jesus said, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:9,11

Those words in John are more than words. They are truth. They are life. God loves you. Loves you unconditionally. If you are not His child – see John 1:12 – His invitation is open to you. He wants everyone to belong to His family.

If we believed that God really loves us, cares deeply about us and our concerns then maybe we wouldn’t worry nearly as much as we do.

Isaiah 41:10-13 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. For I, the Lord your God, will hold your hand, saying to you ’fear not, I will help you.’

These are precious promises from God your Father.

God is bigger than all of our concerns or boogeymen. In Him are all wisdom and knowledge. Nothing is impossible with God.

Because of what Jesus has done for us when He died on the cross, we can go boldly to God’s throne to share with Him our concerns.

To tell Him how needy we are.

How we cannot do anything without Him.

How life can be too big for us.

Are you ready for real help? Hebrews 4:16 says,  “Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Allow God to take your hand and walk with you through life. He wants to walk with us all the time, not just the difficult times. As we walk with Him our confidence in His provision will grow to the point that when something really awful happens our hand will already be in His hand and we can be confident in His care. As the floodwaters of calamity and misfortune come closer and closer, we can rest assured that they will not be too big for Him and He has our hand.

When we take God’s hand we can let go of what we were clinging to so desperately. Let it go and take His hand. It is a choice.      A decision.      A step of faith.      A matter of trust.      Relinquishment.

It is a decision about – God, trust, relinquishment. That is the key to being free of anxiety. Letting go. Trusting God to have your best welfare in mind and the best welfare of those you care about.

Anxiety melts away when we know we are loved by the creator.

Gracious Father, I pray that You open our eyes so we can know how incredible is Your love for us. And to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge. Help us to obey Jesus when He told us to abide in His love. And live every minute of our every day in His love. It is there we will find peace and real joy. Amen
